BATF Approved Front Venting Blank Guns!

Sorry for the uncharacteristic exclamation point, but this is a big development for those of us doing low budget gun wrangling or action films in the US. Previously, while not explicitly illegal, companies haven’t gone through the hassle of getting import rights for front venting models, so acquiring any has been very difficult, expensive, and often a question of being lucky (in the right place at the right time).

Looks like that might be changing: Maxsell now has a few new front venting models available, including select fire. Veeery interesting development, and I can only hope that this starts a trend.

Kinda makes me wish I didn’t have so much invested in blank guns already (mostly top venting), but the top-venters will always have their place- mostly in live theatre, where muzzle flash isn’t generally demanded, and safety during long (generally unsupervised after an initial training) runs is essential.

Not sure I can pony up for any new guns right now, but we’ll see how business and demand turn out now that I’m in VA. Still haven’t really started up the business again; Need to re-register the LLC in VA, spend some quality time (hard to come by) making sure my financial and business practices are in order (would love a hand with that if anyone volunteers), getting the props set up in a more accessible, secure, climate-controlled storage area, etc.

ONLY the 914S is approved by the BATF and that is only approved as a starter pistal or fireworks launcher. Be careful with these purchases. You woll be held accountable for possessing illegal blank guns

Not according to the Maxsell website, as they now have a half dozen or more models available and have stated BATF approval. I’m also not sure the BATF specifies use that way (only starter pistols or fireworks launching)- there’s always been an exception to things like the orange muzzle regulation for theatrical and film productions.
