About

My name is Kevin Inouye.  I have been doing fights for both stage and screen since the late 90s.  I am a SAG-AFTRA stunt performer/actor, a Certified Teacher and Theatrical Firearms Instructor with the Society of American Fight Directors, but have also been heavily informed by my studies of both Asian and European martial arts, a psychology and research background, theatrical movement and acting training including an MFA in Theatre Pedagogy, and by additional stage combat and stunt training from the International Order of the Sword & Pen, Hellbenders fire stunts, and elsewhere. I am also a Certified Teacher with the National Michael Chekhov Association, which has heavily influenced my performance and movement work. With the IOSP, I serve on the Artistic Advisory Council, and have served on the CO Local SAG-AFTRA board as elected member and convention delegate, and as Regional Representative for the SAFD.  I am sole proprietor of Fight Designer, LLC, which has moved with me now from Seattle, WA, to Richmond, VA, to Laramie, WY, and now to Cleveland, OH, providing fights, gun wrangling, instruction, and prop weaponry.

Now I work as Assistant Professor of Movement and Stage Combat at Case Western Reserve University and the CWRU/Cleveland Playhouse MFA, but my teaching experience also includes the University of Wyoming,  the College of William & Mary, Virginia Commonwealth University, Christopher Newport University, and many theatres, conferences, and workshops. I have authored multiple journal articles, a chapter in Physical Dramaturgy, and two books, the Theatrical Firearms Handbook and the Screen Combat Handbook.
